Friends and family:
I'm delighted to announce the birth of our son, Luke M. Thottam, on Feb. 15, 2009 at 1:19 pm at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California. Luke was 3 days early. At the moment of birth he weighed 7 .6 pounds and was 20.25 inches in length. Mom and baby are both fine [Dad is doing fine too -- ; ) ]. Everything went very well. He is absolutely gorgeous!
From my PC yesterday, at the hospital, we were able to videoconference between Luke and Kirstin's parents (his grandparents) in Abu Dhabai, real time and at no cost. It was a real 'world is flat' moment. He also heard (via phone) from his aunt (Kirstin's sister) in Mexico. As the global economic crisis continues to unfold Luke's new world is clearly getting both bigger and smaller as its inhabitants' collective & individual consciousness evolves.

Feb. 18, 2009 addendum: Within two days of his birth, Luke was back home. He seemed immediately to be very comfortable with his surroundings.
Some facts (as of July 8, 2010):
- Luke is currently 33+ inches tall
- He weighs about 23 pounds.
- His favorite toys are his pushcart and his Radio Flyer bicycle (all wood of course!).
- Luke's vocabulary is really starting to take off and he has become quite a construction artist with our wooden building blocks.
- Loves the LA Museum of Natural History and the Science Museum.
- Luke's first trip abroad was to the Middle East (via London). He visited his grandparents in Abu Dhabi and they toured 5 of the 7 Emirates during his 2 week stay there.
